There are basic guidelines for infant development, but, it is very important that you understand that each child or infant will develop on their very own schedule. In fact, some parents are so concerned about development that they are measuring their child on a constant basis against the development schedule. Don't get anxious, let your child develop on their own personal schedule.

Most parents are concerned, it's normal, but, since their is nothing you can do to hurry the development schedule, don't get anxious. It can actually cause your infant anxiety, and it's way too early for a baby to start dealing with anxiety issues.

Parents need to realize that just because their child is not developing as they think they should that a doctor is probably the best answer to any concerns. In other words, you're doctor will perform simple tests on your child as they develop from infant status to child status going through it's own paces.

There's a good chance that even if your child does certain things out of schedule that they are still developing normally, just at different times. It's an average age of development and every child is a little different. Don't be concerned if your child holds their head up later, there's a good chance they'll catch up quickly once they get going.

If you are overly concerned about these types of milestone, perhaps you're already pushing your child hard for achievement. Be careful here, pressure is felt from a very early age and can cause a myriad of problems later in life.

Make sure you have a pediatrician you can trust, ask your questions and then listen to them. Stop and enjoy each step of infant development no matter when it happens. Remember, you and your infant will only reach each one of these development markers once, whether behind or ahead. Take the time to enjoy and embrace the steps to adulthood.
